Pakistan takes on New Zealand in the match, becoming just the third national team to win 500 ODIs.
The first of the series' five ODIs pitted the Men in Green
against the Black Caps. The hosts beat the visitors by five wickets after
limiting them to 288/7 in 50 overs and completing the target with nine balls
remaining. Due to his 117-off-114, Fakhar Zaman was named Player of the Match.
Pakistan, who took the pitch for their first ODI in 1973
against New Zealand, has now joined Australia and India as the third team to
win 500 ODIs.
It took Pakistan 949 games to reach the goal. Among others,
they defeated Sri Lanka 92 times, India 73 times, the West Indies 63 times, New
Zealand 57 times, Australia 34 times, and Bangladesh 32 times.
Pakistan has its sights set on the ICC Cricket World Cup in
2023, 31 years after its lone successful tournament.
In front of the World Cup in October-November, Pakistan has
a great deal of series to plan for their mission. After the continuous New
Zealand series end, Babar Azam and Co. will go to Sri Lanka for a two-Test
series in July. They will then, at that point, take on Afghanistan for three
ODIs in UAE.
The greatest test before the World Cup for the group is have
Asia Cup 2023 in September, as the hosts will hope to win everything subsequent
to losing to Sri Lanka in the last time round.
